Some of Irelands best golf courses are within easy reach of Hearn’s Hotel. Clonmel Golf Club is an 18 hole parkland course set in the scenic slopes of the Comeragh Mountains. There are numerous parkland and links courses all within an easy drive of Clonmel.
Hearn’s Hotel are happy to offer customised acommodation packages for golfing enthusiasts. We would be delighted to arrange tee times if required. Early breakfast, drying facilities and detailed directions to each course will also be provided.
A day at the races with a flutter at the bookies is a popular past-time throughout Ireland. Racecourses at the towns of Clonmel, Tramore, Mallow, and Tipperary have regular race meets, where racing pundits, world-class thoroughbreds, and the occasional character mingle well together. Clonmel is also within a short drive of both Ballydoyle in Rosegreen and the world famous Coolmore Stud in Fethard.
Walkers who enjoy the heights will find plenty of opportunities to climb over hills and mountains. Easy routes are found on Slievenamon, imortalised by the song “In the valley of Slievenamon”, while more challenging walks are found over the Comeragh, Knockmealdown and Galtee Mountains.
The spectacular scenery of the Nire Valley, through with the Nire River follows its course, welcomes hill-walkers to the region. The Comeragh Mountain Walking Festival is held annually each October, with graded walks to suit every level of walker from beginner to experienced mountaineer.
Cliff walks extend along the coast near Ardmore, Co. Waterford, while riverside walks along the Suir from Clonmel, runs through a glorious valley surrounded by rolling hills.
Clonmel offers an abundance of spots for the fishing enthusiast and river, lake, shore and deep sea angling can all be enjoyed.
Both game and coarse anglers are drawn to the River Suir to fish wild salmon, sea trout, brown trout, roach and dench. Brown trout can be found too in the lakes around Clonmel.
Great angling rivers and lakes are found close to the hotel. All along the magnificant Waterford coastline are perfect spots for shore angling and Deep Sea Angling boats are available for hire at Dungarvan quay.
CLONMEL ARTS FESTIVAL – CLONMEL JUNCTION JULY
The progressive Clonmel Junction Arts Festival with visual art exhibitions, drama, comedy and music performances, takes place at the start of each July. Hearn’s and O’Keeffe’s have been very involved in the festival since its inception and always hosts an eclectic array of performances including music, plays and comedy. This festival is famous for bringing in music and performance art from around the world and its well worth a visit.
VISIT WATERFORD CRYSTAL
Waterford Crystal has traditionally extended a warm welcome to visitors from around the world to its factory showrooms at it home in Waterford City. Tours are given of the production areas where the famous crystal is actually made, with an audio visual presentation, tracing the ancient craft of glassmaking to the present day.
The beautiful medieval city of Kilkenny lies forty five minutes drive from Clonmel. Kilkenny Design Centre, home to exceptional craftsmen and women, is located across from Kilkenny Castle, which itself offers guided tours of the historic building and its grounds are a perfect spot to enjoy a Summer picnic. Kilkenny boasts many fine restaurants and charming, traditional pubs and has a wealth of shopping boutiques and craft shops.
O’Keeffe’s bar where old world meets new with its modern contemporary design but traditional pub-values. With its late-bar licence from Thursday-Sunday, O’Keeffe’s Bar is now a firm favourite in Tipperary with four bars, three DJ’s, two dance floors and one huge beer garden. O’Keeffe’s plays host to the finest traditional Irish musicians, with the Ryan family & friends playing every Wednesday night. Tasty food, offering excellent value is served in the bar every day and catering for parties is also provided on request.
